Welcome to Quarry Hill's Blog!

Quarry Hill Creative Center in Rochester, VT, founded 1946 by Barbara and Irving Fiske, is Vermont's oldest alternative community and at one time was probably also its largest. In the 60s -80s, as many as 90 people lived here.
It was and is visited each year, often in summer (but in every season, really) by visitors from all over the world.
We welcome interesting and creative people who are peaceful, bring no weapons, don't believe in hitting children or killing animals, and enjoy the beauty of Vermont and of themselves.

Most of us do not adhere to any particular dogma or religion, though many do find Eastern philosophy closest to our own thought (some of us are also members of the Quakers/Society of Friends).
We value the individual, particularly people who are energetic and have a sense of humor.
Visitors are welcome-- and prospective residents, too. There are some places for rent, others for sale. If interested, get in touch!
And, please follow the Blog and comment whenever you like!

RENTALS

Quarry Hill rents rooms in the Farmhouse (the former school and business center, and community gathering building) and in "Barbara Hall," former home of Barbara Hall Fiske Calhoun, artist, visionary and co-creator of Quarry Hill.

We charge a very reasonable rent for spaces in these buildings. The Farmhouse rooms are $250 plus utilities at this time.
Shared bathrooms and kitchen, which we ask everyone to keep clean.

Barbara Hall  offers beautiful rooms, originally designed as art studios/living spaces, with lofts and views of the mountains and fields of and near Quarry Hill. $350 a month plus utilities. Shared bath and kitchen, which we ask all who live there  to keep clean.

Occasionally we have a house for rent or for sale.  '

If you are interested in seeing Quarry Hill and its rental spaces, please send an email to ladybellefiske@gmail.com with RENTAL? in the subject line. (I get a lot of mail).

In winter, an all-wheel vehicle with snow tires, preferably studded, is necessary. We live in the mountains behind Rochester and Hancock, on an old hill farm. The mountains demand a certain adaptation to their way-- especially in winter!

Thanks for your thoughtfulness. We also sometimes must temporarily close a road to vehicles during mud season or other times when the weather is rough.

Right now it is gorgeous here and the colors are turning rapidly! Come and visit. Send me an email with your plans to arrive here and if you want to stay over, pls bring a sleeping bag, in summer a tent if possible, and some food and money for food.
A donation of $25 a night is courteously requested of visitors for up to three nights.
There can be NO VIOLENCE, especially toward children or animals.
Thanks for your consideration!
