Welcome to Quarry Hill's Blog!
Quarry Hill Creative Center in Rochester, VT, founded 1946 by Barbara and Irving Fiske, is Vermont's oldest alternative community and at one time was probably also its largest. In the 60s -80s, as many as 90 people lived here.
It was and is visited each year, often in summer (but in every season, really) by visitors from all over the world.
We welcome interesting and creative people who are peaceful, bring no weapons, don't believe in hitting children or killing animals, and enjoy the beauty of Vermont and of themselves.
Most of us do not adhere to any particular dogma or religion, though many do find Eastern philosophy closest to our own thought (some of us are also members of the Quakers/Society of Friends).
We value the individual, particularly people who are energetic and have a sense of humor.
Visitors are welcome-- and prospective residents, too. There are some places for rent, others for sale. If interested, get in touch!
And, please follow the Blog and comment whenever you like!

A snowy Day
It's March 1, 2012, and it's a very snowy day... I hear the roads are slippery, and we seem to be getting a lot of snow coming down.
Joya and Andrew are going to visit this weekend-- or at least Joya is (HOORAY!!). Andy will come for dinner on Sat.from Vermont Law School. He's been there a lot since he started his first year studies, and I've missed him very much-- Joya, too. But I know I'll see her once every four or six weeks. Andrew's so busy I am never quite sure when he will come, though it was great to see him here with Limor the other day.
Snow, chickadees, cold, winter finally-- though sugaring is starting and now it is almost time for spring...

Greetings to our Visitors/Blogreaders!
I want to send a word of greeting and pleased surprise to the "fans" of this Blog who stopped by Quarry Hill today and met Brion (my husband, for anyone who doesn't know). I hope another time you will be able to come for tea or coffee and a little visiting! If it's spring or summer we can take a walk that won't be sliding on ice, and that might be better. (The paths have been sanded, as of this afternoon, but it is late January which makes people coming by all the more remarkable!)
Brion didn't quite remember your names, but he was very pleased, as I am, that people are interested in this blog and in Quarry Hill. I'd love to meet you some other time, and perhaps we can as I understand that your son lives in Waitsfield. It's not far. Thanks so much!
My e-mail address is ladybellefiske@gmail.com for the future. If I know when you might come, I can be here... but then, dropping in with all its serendipity is deeply true to the nature of Quarry Hill and all that we've tried to do and be for more than 65 years. Welcome and thank you!
Ladybelle
PS I think there's a picture somewhere on the Blog of me a couple of years ago. I'll have to put up a more recent one, as, I guess, you saw one of me at an earlier time (age 30 or so). Time, as Einstein said, is only a "very persistent illusion.."
