Welcome to Quarry Hill's Blog!

Quarry Hill Creative Center in Rochester, VT, founded 1946 by Barbara and Irving Fiske, is Vermont's oldest alternative community and at one time was probably also its largest. In the 60s -80s, as many as 90 people lived here.
It was and is visited each year, often in summer (but in every season, really) by visitors from all over the world.
We welcome interesting and creative people who are peaceful, bring no weapons, don't believe in hitting children or killing animals, and enjoy the beauty of Vermont and of themselves.

Most of us do not adhere to any particular dogma or religion, though many do find Eastern philosophy closest to our own thought (some of us are also members of the Quakers/Society of Friends).
We value the individual, particularly people who are energetic and have a sense of humor.
Visitors are welcome-- and prospective residents, too. There are some places for rent, others for sale. If interested, get in touch!
And, please follow the Blog and comment whenever you like!

Information all back on track-- please write!

Ok, I figured it out... please, friends, read Quarry Hill Creative Center's Blog. I will be able to see how many people are visiting (we've had a few) and that things are working again. I hope you'll keep reading, and post comments for us. We are always interested in your thoughts.

Here are some ideas to comment on:

What do you think of QH's idea that children should never be spanked, scolded, or blamed -- but treated as "ambassadors from another dimension"?

What do you think of the idea of "multiple relationship" which was prevalent at QH in the days of yore (60s-80s)?

We now have a whole lot of new people living with us! Come and visit sometime.  Please let us know before you just show up though... a letter written to

about 2 to 3 weeks in advance would be greatly appreciated.

In order to become resident here, unfortunately, we have discovered that it is now necessary to begin checking people's references and giving them a questionnaire to answer. The world is just a lot more dangerous place than it once was... but if you agree with us that nonviolence is the way to go, that children deserve admiration and respect, that animals should not be hunted or slaughtered, and that fun is one of the major purposes of life, you may be the right person for QH and we for you!

So, write to us and let us know what to think!
Thanks
Ladybelle
