Welcome to Quarry Hill's Blog!

Quarry Hill Creative Center in Rochester, VT, founded 1946 by Barbara and Irving Fiske, is Vermont's oldest alternative community and at one time was probably also its largest. In the 60s -80s, as many as 90 people lived here.
It was and is visited each year, often in summer (but in every season, really) by visitors from all over the world.
We welcome interesting and creative people who are peaceful, bring no weapons, don't believe in hitting children or killing animals, and enjoy the beauty of Vermont and of themselves.

Most of us do not adhere to any particular dogma or religion, though many do find Eastern philosophy closest to our own thought (some of us are also members of the Quakers/Society of Friends).
We value the individual, particularly people who are energetic and have a sense of humor.
Visitors are welcome-- and prospective residents, too. There are some places for rent, others for sale. If interested, get in touch!
And, please follow the Blog and comment whenever you like!

Robert Crumb, great artist and cartoonist, treated like dirt in Australia by Murdoch papers

Robert Crumb, the great Underground cartoonist with a few hidden psychological quirks, has been treated with contempt by the Rupert Murdoch-owned media in Australia as he attended an arts event there. Crumb withdrew from the event; it seems that Australia, or at least Murdoch, has not caught up with the wild popularity and artistic acceptance Crumb has found in recent years. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/cartoonist-miffed-by-negative-newspaper-article/story-e6frg6n6-1226111266535 After all, Murdoch is such an example of moral rectitude. Here is the original article from the Murdoch paper:http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/sydney-nsw/smutty-show-a-comic-outrage/story-e6freuzi-1226105158471 Robert is a kind person, with, like all of us, unconscious drives he doesn't really understand, but which in his case make him the Hieronymus Bosch of today's comic artists. He is a great artist, in my not at all humble opinion. Robert, sue them! Give them hell!

  1. Robert Crumb is my friend and a warm, caring, person who really stands by his friends. Murdoch is an a---hole who tapped a dead girl's phone. This is a complete outrage and Crumb should sue him for libel and slander.
